open space

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to a different 'Open Space.' This time we have used this forum to introduce the results of our customer survey to which many of you kindly gave time and effort to contribute. We really value your honesty and openness and have already responded with a number of initiatives to improve and update our offering and service delivery.

The central themes that emerged were the importance of effective contracting between Thompson Dunn and our clients. From our side, to clearly articulate the business impact and outcomes of our work, and for our clients to be clear of the broader organisational strategies that assessment and development seeks to support. More detail is available in our survey summary article.

We have also taken the opportunity to outline some of the work that we are currently doing, in order to introduce Thompson Dunn to some of our new readers. We hope you enjoy this edition and that your ideas will start to flow for our next topic, which will be 'Working in a Global Marketplace.'

At Thompson Dunn we really enjoy the opportunity to work with different cultures and organisations. We hope that you will send us your ideas, thoughts and experiences on how globalisation is affecting the way you work and how you are able to respond to the changing demands of the 'flat world' we live in. Please send submissions to lawrence.francis@thompsondunn.com by Friday 18th April.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce three new members of the Thompson Dunn team. All are psychologists who come from very differing experiential and cultural backgrounds. Mellissa originates from Melbourne, Australia and has experience of psychology and accountancy in her home country. Charlotte has a psychology and counselling background. Omar has a background in sports and psychology and originates from Sudan and Sweden. In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our Chairman, Lance Moir, who tries to keep us focused on our own business objectives, not just yours. They are a lively group of very positive additions to the Thompson Dunn team.

THOMPSON DUNN CLIENT SURVEY

 > Full Article

At the end of 2007 we at Thompson Dunn felt it would be timely to request feedback from our clients. In our 19 years of trading this is the first formal survey process that has been undertaken. Thompson Dunn is currently in a period of transition and change. The company is growing and to facilitate its development and that of ourselves as psychologists working in the corporate sector, we felt the need to listen to a range of clients' perspectives on our services to date.

WHAT IS ASSESSMENT FOR?

 > Full Article

Much is being written currently about leadership development, the management of human capital, facilitating and growing a company's leadership pipeline and executive coaching. At Thompson Dunn, we begin our approach to work of this nature by establishing a baseline, the point from which we start an intervention with a client.

MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT, EXECUTIVE COACHING & YOUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT

 > Full Article

The benefits of management assessment and coaching to organisations are numerous and impact greatly on businesses' bottom line. However, calculating a monetary Return on Investment for such activities is more difficult to do. Whilst equations can be drawn up to give you a figure, or percentage ratio, such financial and statistical analysis invariably includes arbitrary judgement within the process.

DO YOU USE YOUR LEFT OR RIGHT BRAIN?

 > Full Article

For those of you who have navigated the corporate world to senior management, you are likely to have, along the way, brushed up against, been subjected to or been gently pressganged into psychometric testing. The ubiquitous nature of measurement tools for both core ability and personality preference to think and behave, to my mind, leads to problems for those on the receiving end of such analysis.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT RESEARCH EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 > Full Article

Thompson Dunn has become increasingly aware of the interest surrounding employee engagement from both an academic and a business related point of view. As a consequence of this shift and its likely impact upon our clients, I undertook a piece of research to investigate this phenomenon, and identify practical steps that organisations can take to raise their employee engagement levels.
